Autographs are my hobby

Welcome to my blog celebrating autographs and telling stories about those who have signed them!

I started collecting autographs as a child in the 1980s and also developed a love of sports, especially of the teams from my birthplace in Buffalo. My patient parents would often wait for my brother and me when we’d get in-person autographs from athletes at games. And when I was around 11, I started writing to athletes and celebrities, asking for signatures.

After college, I was fortunate enough to have a brief-but-fun career as a newspaper sportswriter, covering a wide range of sports and learning plenty of history. Although my career changed when I shifted into corporate communications, my love of all sports has persevered.

I rediscovered the enjoyment of collecting autograph and sports memorabilia about a decade ago. These days, I add to my collection mostly through the mail, and I occasionally make special purchases, including turf from the Buffalo Bills’ stadium and basketball flooring from St. Bonaventure University.

I consider my hobby a way of preserving and celebrating history. I enjoy the research and sleuthing that goes into finding athletes, celebrities and others whose signatures might be fun to collect. And I especially appreciate any written interactions I have with them.

This blog is my way of showing off my collection and sharing many of the stories behind the autographs.

If you’re interested in collecting, I highly recommend checking out sportscollectors.net, a fantastic site for connecting with other collectors and finding addresses.

I’m always happy to help fellow collectors and sports fans. I’d love to hear from you.
